‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Alyson Hannigan To Guest Star On CBS Series ‘The McCarthys’
Actress Alyson Hannigan, known for playing Lily Aldrin on the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” is returning to the network as a guest star on “The McCarthys.”
Hannigan will play Pam, a broken-hearted tenant of Marjorie (Laurie Metcalf) and Arthur (Jack McGee). The family invites her to join them for festivities on Christmas Eve. But the clan becomes boisterous while exchanging gifts and things quickly get out of hand, giving Pam an experience she did not expect when she accepted the invitation.
The Christmas-themed episode airs on CBS Dec. 18.
Hannigan spent nine seasons portraying schoolteacher and painter Lily Aldrin on “How I Met Your Mother.” The hit sitcom followed Ted Mosby and his friends in a series of flashbacks as an older Ted weaved the long tale of how he met his soul mate to his two teenage children.
Hannigan is also known for other iconic roles, including Michelle Flaherty in the “American Pie” films and Willow Rosenberg on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
“The McCarthys” is a new sitcom from CBS that debuted this season. It was created by Brian Gallivan, who executive produces alongside Andy Ackerman, Richard Schwartz, Will Gluck and Mike Sikowitz. It stars Metcalf, McGee, Tyler Ritter, Jimmy Dunn, Joey McIntyre, Kelen Coleman and John Ratzenberger.
The series follows the McCarthy family, a close-knit group of the working class variety. They live in Boston and are very sports-oriented. When Arthur, the McCarthy patriarch, decides to offer his openly gay son Ronny a position as his assistant at the high school where he coaches basketball, the rest of the family is up in arms about the choice.
“The McCarthys” premiered on Oct. 30 of this year, and three episodes have aired so far. Perhaps the presence of a CBS alum like Hannigan will help to guarantee the sitcom’s success.
