‘The Goldbergs’ will take on ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ in latest ‘80s tribute

CULVER CITY, CA - MARCH 12: (L-R) Actors Troy Gentile, Wendi McLendon-Covy Jeff Garlin, Producer/writer Adam Goldberg at Sony Pictures Studios on March 12, 2014 in Culver City, California.

Move over, Ferris. Adam Goldberg wants a day off, and he’s channeling John Hughes’ iconic ‘80s movie about a teen truant, according to TV Line on Tuesday. A “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” themed episode of ABC’s “The Goldbergs” will air mid-season, continuing the sitcom’s shout outs to some of the biggest pop culture milestones of the Me Decade.

Last season, “The Goldbergs” paid homage to another big ‘80s flick, “The Goonies,” and the sophomore season of the sitcom has also already touched on events like Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s Royal wedding and ‘80s hair bands like Twisted Sister. Upcoming storylines include a flashback to the Pop Rocks and soda hoax, a major “Back to the Future” hoverboard reference, and a possible run-in with NKOTB.
