New Kids on the Block

Consider our minds blown.

One of our favorite early boy bands, New Kids on the Block, is back and sea-bound. The band will star in the first eight episodes of a reality cruise-boat show called “Rock This Boat: NKOTB” on the TV Guide Network.

TVGN will also be airing a casting special in an effort to find the most die-hard NKOTB fans (aka “Blockheads”) out there.

According to a press release from TVGN, “cameras will follow the fun, free-spirited voyage of a few select groups of super fans at sea with the band mates.”

These “super fans” will enjoy daily and nightly deck parties and will get a day to leave the boat and explore Bermuda. Oddly, the press release didn’t clarify whether NKOTB would actually be performing, though, or simply hanging out and partying with the Blockheads.

After breaking up in the mid-’90s and reuniting in 2008, NKOTB made quite the name for itself on the concert cruise circuit. According to US Weekly, the cruises “are so popular that they have a wait list of thousands.”

The band’s next cruise, scheduled for June, will leave from New York City and dock in Bermuda, is indeed sold out.

It wasn’t mentioned whether or not this would be the cruise featured in “Rock This Boat”, but TVGN described the to-be-filmed cruise as “weeklong”, while the cruise in June will last only five days.

NKOTB also has a European tour starting in Stockholm in May and a special at the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood in July.

Band members Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood, and the recently-engaged Donnie Wahlberg each (for the most part) have their own side projects they’re working on in addition to “Rock This Boat”.

Jordan has an album with Nick Carter (ingeniusly titled “Nick & Knight”) coming out in September. Donnie, meanwhile, currently stars on “Wahlburgers” with brothers Mark and Paul, and Joey appeared in last summer’s “The Heat” alongside Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
