Marathon man: A delighted Joey McIntyre of new Kids On the Block showed off his medal for completing the Boston Marathon on Monday
It’s all in the timing: The 41-year-old finished the 26 miles in three hours, 48 minutes and 11 seconds and gave a shout out to band mate Danny Wood who came in nine minutes after him
Set to celebrate: The star could hardly contain himself and he shared his delight with fans
The 41-year-old, who was number 31,829 in the race, shared his finish time on Twitter, writing ‘3:48:11 baby!!! #BostonMarathon. Couldn’t have done it without you guys!!’
The time placed him 1,479th in the race that was won by Meb Keflezighi, who clocked in at 2:08:37 to become the first U.S. male to win the storied marathon since 1983.
Last year, tragedy struck the annual event when two pressure cooker bombs exploded close to the finish line, killing three people and injuring hundreds.
Joey has been sharing his experiences of this year’s poignant event in a series of social media messages.
He’s ready to go: Joey shared a selfie of him among the thousands of other runners waiting for the signal to start the marathon
On Sunday he took to Tumblr with an almost lyrical appreciation of Boston.
He wrote: ‘I had the most special day today in Boston. I sat on a bench on Comm Ave and watched the blossoms sway in the cool spring breeze. I road (sic) around the old neighborhood. Every little bit made my heart grow bigger.
‘I realized today that coming home isn’t necessarily relaxing – I’m instantly filled with many emotions – it’s like I’m reborn every time I’m here. In the sense that I’m shocked to life. Again my heart starts beating. It’s on an animalistic level. And it just got weird 🙂 but it at a deep natural level.’
He was briefer before the race when he posted a smiling selfie on Twitter with the message:’Here we go!!!’
Watch out for me: Some 36,000 runners took part in the race and on Saturday the rocker picked up his number and shared the moment on Instagram
This year he was joined by fellow NKOTB bandmate Danny Wood who came in nine minutes after Joey, placing him at 15,288.
Joey tweeted, ‘Big congrats 4 (sic) an amazing 3:50 by my man @dannywood! #celebrate’
They were greeted at the finish line by their NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg, whose brother Jim also completed the race.
Training for the marathon has no doubt got Joey and Danny in great shape for their monthlong European Tour when they will join Donnie plus brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight in Stockholm on May 6,
In July they will celebrate their 30th anniversary with two gigs at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
On the job: Joey performed with NKOTB during The Package Tour that included 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota last July
