Amazon Blu-ray Deals of the Week: Band of Brothers & The Pacific Special-Edition Collection

Amazon’s Blu-ray Deals of the Week affect HBO’s Band of Brothers / The Pacific set. Through March 1st, Amazon is offering this package for a 59% discount from its MSRP of $159.96.

Executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, these two highly acclaimed miniseries offer visceral and dramatic looks at America’s participation in World War II. Band of Brothers covers the European campaign, following the members of the U.S. Army’s 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division – “Easy Company” – as they move from basic training to do battle with the Nazis in France and Germany. Band of Brothers‘ impressive ensemble cast includes Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Donnie Wahlberg, Michael Cudlitz, Neal McDonough, Scott Grimes, David Schwimmer, Colin Hanks, Simon Pegg, James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, and Michael Fassbender.

The Pacific, on the other hand, takes a sobering look at the Pacific campaign and the frightening, relentless combat required of men who fought at places like Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. While no less sprawling than Band of Brothers in its scope, The Pacific views the war primarily through the eyes of three soldiers – Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale), John Basilone (Jon Seda), and Eugene Sledge (Joseph Mazzello) – using their individual experiences to represent a generation of war-weary Americans.

The thirteen-disc special edition includes both Band of Brothers and The Pacific alongside commentaries on selected episodes, interviews with cast and crew members, and behind-the-scenes documentaries.

The Band of Brothers / The Pacific bundle is $64.99.

Note: Amazon’s website also lists the MGM Best of Award Winners Collection in its Deals of the Week section, and certain pop-up notices say it is for sale at a 66% discount this week. However, the online retailer has yet to apply that discount – the nine-film collection is currently $116.99 (a 10%-markdown). Look for further updates to this post should Amazon reduce that price.

This deal expires at 12 AM PST/3 AM EST next Sunday, March 2nd.
